I'd be a fool to not mention today is the 5 year anniversary of the 2010-11 Boston Bruins winning the Stanley Cup. 5 years ago.. holy shit where does time go? I remember this season and playoff run like it was yesterday, it was the end of my freshmen year of college. I can remember watching the opening round in my dorm in Browning at URI. The Bruins had 3 hard fought 7 game series during the cup run against the Canadiens, Lightning and Canucks. After falling down 2-0 at home in the first round the Bruins came back and beat the hated Habs in 7 on a Nathan Horton game winner. We'd get used to those that postseason. He had another game 7 winner in a 1-0 classic against the Lightning in the Conference Finals. That team was so fun to watch, so loaded, everybody bought into their role and the team jelled. They had a rookie helping in Tyler Seguin, and an old vet going for one last ride in Mark Recchi. In a way it makes me sad because they only won the one championship when from 2010-2014 the Bruins were one of the best teams in the NHL but at least we have the one. What made this championship even more special was it ended a nearly 40 year Cup drought for the Bruins, and it also gave all four professional teams in the Boston area championships since 2004. Us Boston fans have been truly lucky the last 15 years. The Stanley Cup Final was awesome. 7 game classic, again the Bruins fell down 2-0. But they fought back and won a must win game 3 at home in a laugher 8-1. The Bruins got in the Canucks head so badly it's not even funny. They had real estate in Roberto Luongo's head before that was even a saying. Pumpin tires and shit. Dude was such a mental midget. Shitting on the Sedin twins was awesome as well. Dudes biting during fights. It was nuts. The series killed the Canucks, they won the Presidents Trophy the next year and lost in the first round, and have not been a Cup caliber team since. The home team was 6-0 until game 7, and both teams were winning in different ways. The Canucks would just barely squeak by the Bruins in the home wins, twice winning 1-0 and the Bruins would crush the Canucks in the Garden. Finally in game 7 the trends stopped as the Bruins beat the Canucks 4-0 in a rather uncompetitive game. Kind of a bummer for a game 7, but as a Bruins fan you didn't care. Tim Thomas was unreal throughout the playoffs on his way to a Conn Smythe Trophy. Without him the Bruins don't hoist the Cup. People may have their opinions on him off the ice, but there's no denying how good Timmy was with the B's during this time. Some of the faces are still around, but for the most part the guys on that team are elsewhere. That 2011 team was special, what a run. Bruins are a long way away from getting back to the Stanley Cup Finals but let's never forget how awesome the 2010-11 run was. P.S. NOBODY knew how to party like the Bruins. The boys went IN at the woods. Looking back that was the beginning of the end for the Seguin era in Boston. Double P.S. People forget that Brad Marchand has a "Starley Cup" Champs tattoo. Prison ink city.

According to thisdayinmusic.com it is Ice Cube's birthday. Happy Birthday Ice! It's also the day I broke the 100 pound mark for weight lose so all things considered I have a great choice today for SOD. First non rock song in forever. Song: It Was A Good Day
Artist: Ice Cube Album: The Predator (1993)
Whenever there are acts of terrorism in the following days there are always stories of brave men and women who risk their lives to safe others. I remember the story of Victoria Soto who died at Sandy Hook saving students and was posthumously given the Presidential Citizens Medal, the second highest award a civilian can receive. Saturday night in Orlando it was bouncer Irman Yousuf who didn't flinch in a moment of terror, reacted and saved lives. The former Marine said he could tell by the sound of the shots that there were assault weapons being fired and risked his life by avoiding cover to open a door to let around 60 people escape the Pulse nightclub.
This is an act of bravery that cannot go unnoticed. What I believe also cannot go unnoticed is that Irman Yousuf is a Hindu man who is an American citizen, and served in the United States Mariner Corp for 6 years. In a time where racism runs rampant, this is why we cannot just "bomb everybody" or keep everybody out because there are so many great people who want to come to this country and help. So many want to do great things. This man who fought for our freedom, shows what it truly do what it means to be an American. It can be easy to stereotype at times, and I can admit I am guilty of it from time to time, but in a time where a crazy, sick twisted, evil brown man killed 50 innocent people, it is vital to also acknowledge the brown man who SAVED over 60 other lives. Make no mistake this guy is a hero in every sense of the word. Absolutely heart breaking at the end of the video too where the interviewer talks about all the lives Irman was able to save and all he can think about is the ones he was unable to. Sounds like a Marine to me. P.S. This guy being 24 makes me feel like absolute shit.
I thought I was cool with London. When I was younger I was a punk, wanna be tough guy and always would crap on Europe. I was an ignorant kid and say stupid things like "London is gay" looking back it's embarrassing but as I got older I began to appreciate it, read and saw things that seemed interesting and would even like to go across the pond and see what all the fuss was about. But after this news, I think that ship has sailed.
Starting in July London is banning ads that have "unrealistic body images" aka advertisements with models because it hurts fat people's feelings to see it. The claim is these images shame people who are out of shape. If you're not familiar with the term "body shaming" this story is 100% about that. Body Shaming is basically making people feel bad for being fat and gross. It's ridiculous, complete reverse darwinism. How do you even determine whats unrealistic? Such a gray area. Now I know what you're probably thinking... "Doz, you're fat, and only a few months ago you were extremely fat, shouldn't you be on the side of the fatties?" My simple answer to that is NO, and I never was on that side, even at my highest of 376 pounds. Being fat is gross and it sucks. I hated it, I still hate it, it's been a battle my entire life. But you know what, I dealt with it like a man, and am still dealing with it. You don't complain that attractive people who take care of themselves make you feel bad, you do something about it. Our cultures nowadays are far too accepting of everything. It's ridiculous, the world has turned into parents that can't say no to their shitty kids. Well I'm saying no right now. No you can't be a fat slob and expect people to be okay with it. This sends such a bad message. Believe me I struggled with my weight my entire life. Nearly 25 years. I know we don't wanna be too hard on people but sometimes tough love is the most effective way to handle a situation. Yes I know some models do ridiculous things to stay thin and I guess that is wrong too. But telling morbidly obese fat people it's okay to be fat is insane. It's not okay. You will die young. That's why I did something, as much life sucks sometimes, I don't want it to end yet. If I didn't change I'd probably not see 50. Sure we don't want to bully kids and have them do something drastic but at the same time you can't just hold people's hand forever. Obesity is major issue in many countries worldwide, instead of doing something like this perhaps we can attack the issue head on so there are more 300+ pound people rolling around this planet. This is just a real bummer because between all the shows I watch set in London I've really wanted to go see it at some point. Looks like it could be fun for up to a week. Could have even seen a footie match and hung out with some hooligans but if they're gonna be about all this pussy pc coddling stuff then I think I'm gonna have visit some other country. Come on London, right this wrong because I wanna visit.
Well what awesome news! I wrote about this last week (http://www.dozonlife.com/blogs/is-curb-coming-back) and apparently the rumors were true!
When asked why he decided to come back Larry David said “In the immortal words of Julius Caesar, ‘I left, I did nothing, I returned.’” After 5 years off Curb is back, Idk if that's ever happened in the history of TV but regardless it's awesome news. A 5 year break is a long time. It's like if Shaq or Brett Favre decided to come back (which is something I still believe we can't write off entirely) or getting back together with an ex after that long. These things just don't happen. Unless it's Larry David. Kevin Garnett was right, anything is possible. Curb Your Enthusiasm is back, what a great day to be alive. I don't even care about trying to be funny in this blog I'm just so excited to share the news. Theres nothing like telling people news, regardless if it's good or bad. Luckily today it's good. I'm sure everybody on earth is going to say something like this "pretty, pretty good" news but not me I won't do that even though it is preeeeetttyy, prettttyyyyy good news to see. P.S. Speaking of Shaq Artist: Arctic Monkeys Song: Still Take You Home Album: Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not (2006) Would've posted earlier but Weebly was down....BIG DAY coming blog wise. Curb is back and fat people are crying about being fat. Let's go!.... Also this album is top 10 rock albums of my lifetime (post 91)
I only get to watch maybe 2-3 Red Sox games from start to finish a week just because of work and time with life, it sucks but I'm getting older and that's how it does sometimes. Yesterday I watched probably 75% of the Red Sox game which was a heart breaker. They lost a game they should've won against the lowly Twins, which sucks but this isn't about this. It's about Hanley Ramirez. Despite only 4 HR's and a .270ish batting average he's been for the most part a pleasant surprised this season. He dropped a ball that was called an error on Xander, but IMO Hanley should've had it which led to a big inning for the Twins. That's the bad and the ugly.
This is the good.
When Hanley stole 2nd, his gigantic spaceman batting helmet looked like it was starting to fall and because Hanley has been pretty smooth in 2016 he just caught it before it fell to the ground, in stride and jogged into 2nd base like a running back who just broke through the hole and strolled into the end zone. To me during a Sunday day game this was a funny little, quirky moment that happens in the course of a baseball season. Every team has a hand full of these silly plays through the course of the season. Sucks it happened in a loss but I enjoyed this yesterday during the game and thought it should be shared.
HUGE series against the O's this week as they are the Sox are tied for 1st place in the AL East. Gotta play well at home and win get at least 2-3. Gotta get to the Sox soon, would love to go Thursday if anybody is in. Hit ole dozo up. I just spent like an hour writing about Orlando and guns. It sucks but had to be addressed. I want to blog about stuff I like, sports, music, life and just being funny in general, but when life happens you have to address it you can't just bury your head in the sand. That being said, Madden 17 released a trailer for the game today and it has me feeling all the feels. My relationship with Madden is one of the longest relationships of my life. I've been a huge fan since Madden 04. Sorta late to the game but I only played Tony Hawk pretty much until I was like 12. Can we just be upfront here? Madden is the same game every single year. I can't get fired up about a commercial for a game that isn't coming out for two months. Only thing they do is make the graphics a tiny bit better, get rid of something that people like, change the way you kick from the right joint stick to the d-pad every couple seasons and update the rosters. I swear Madden released the same trailer last summer, and the one after that, and so on....
But Madden remains my favorite video game, what can I say I'm obsessed with football. I love it, despite my love/hate relationship with the NFL itself, I just can't get enough. I just can't get fired up about a stupid commercial. I'm sure Madden 17 will be sick, and I'll probably buy it the day it comes out but I'm not gonna freak out about this ad. Does nothing for me. One thing I need to know is is Tom Brady going to be suspended in the video game? Because if he is I am OUT on Madden this fall just out of sheer principle. Also I still HATE that Gronk is on the cover. I don't believe for one second the madden curse is over, anybody that thinks a curse just ends because nobody gets hurt for a couple years knows nothing about curses. Wikipedia curses one time for me and you'll see everything you need to know. Let's just hope Gronk makes it through the season with a pulse. By now we all know about the terrible attacks that happened Saturday night, absolutely horrible news. What is even worse is that IMO you can't even say this was shocking news with the climate of this country right now. It's really messed up but it feels like there is some sort of attack either on U.S. soil or abroad every few weeks. Just off the top of my head in the last few years there has been Aurora, Sandy Hook, Boston Marathon Bombing, Arizona, San Bernardino, Brussels, Frances. I'm sure there are tons more I'm forgetting, but what almost all of those attacks have in common is crazy people with access to assault weapons. I just know at least once a month I feel like I see Obama giving some speech about a horrible attack happening, how we need to stop the senseless violence, a bunch of people in politics tweet "thoughts and prayers for the families and victims of __________" yet nothing changes and more innocent people are killed for no reason. It's sickening.
What makes Orlando even more tough to deal with is how many hot button topics are thrown into the mix with this awful attack. It's hits almost everything that is pressing, it happened at a gay night club, to gay men, with automatic assault weapons, by a man who appears to be of middle eastern descent with possible radical ties. It's like the most 2016 crime possible. It's only Monday and the wound is still very fresh as this attack happened not even 72 hours ago. News is still coming out, and with what I've read and watched it seems foggy as to whether or not the attacker has direct ISIS connections. It appears that he did, I've seen both sides but honestly that doesn't matter to me whether or not religion played a part in the crime. We all know how awful ISIS is and how bad radical terrorists are, tbh that doesn't matter to me as much for this because what I'm concerned about is the automatic assault weapons used in this act. Because there are gonna be people with hate no matter what, hate is something as old as time, and there are gonna be sick people, but how easy it is to get these killing machines is terrifying. It also doesn't matter to me that it was at a gay club, what matters is that was over 50 people killed, doesn't matter who they were attracted to, 50+ people are dead. Deadliest mass shooting in United States history, where it happened doesn't matter, the fact that it happened does. Obviously the Muslim and gay tag(s) make it a much bigger, sexier news story but if someone killed 50 random people at a grocery store it's still a horrible act. In recent years it seems much more prevalent that someone(s) gets their hands on these weapons and awful things happen. What is even worse is how many of these people who were known threats, this fucking coward in Orlando had already been questioned by the FBI multiple times and still was able to legally. That is fucking mind blowing, my mom said to stop swearing so much on here but that is warranted. How the hell can we know this piece of shit has a possible terrorist background from a fucking $20 background check yet he was allowed to buy assault weapons? I hate when people say guns don't kill people, people kill people because that's bullshit. Guns don't just shoot for no reason, they're useless without a person behind them. It's just a really messy, sensitive situation. I don't want to get into politics but how can you not be terrified as an American right now? All three potential presidential candidates have SERIOUS red flags and things in the US are only getting worse.I'm not afraid to say I'm scared, I am, everybody should be. How do we stop these attacks? Other countries don't have nearly the same amount of murders as we do in the U.S., guns have EVERYTHING to do with it. I've been saying it for years, I think guns in this country are the ultimate Catch-22. You can't just take them away from people who have them now, or make them "more illegal". That will never work and create even more of a black market. Plus it's not like people who want to murder dozens of innocent people care about laws. I'm anti guns, but I've thought about getting one just to protect myself, you never know who is gonna just snap one day and take a bunch of people, even though I don't want to have a gun, I'd rather be prepared. But IMO there is no reason whatsoever for a civilian to own assault weapons. You love guns? Tough shit, you're a weirdo, get a normal hobby. Even if it's just a "collection" and you're a gun fan I don't think it matters. Get a new fucking hobby you nutcase. Collect baseball cards or something that can't kill a ton of people in a blink of an eye. I don't wanna hear the 2nd Amendment BS either, as a history major most of the constitution is outdated. It's not 1776 anymore. If you want to have a handgun to protect your home from intruders that's one thing, having a room in your house that looks like it's from a movie with 25 AKs and other automatic assault weapons that's another. The fact that countless numbers of people can get an AR-15 pretty easily is insane to me. IMO guns are killing machines, that's why they were invented, why else does a person want one of those in their home? Guns for protection and for mass murder are apples and oranges IMO. The one thing I thing we can and should do is make it much, much more difficult to buy these types of guns. There should be multiple mental tests you have to pass, multiple background tests you should have to pass, you should need references, you should need legit reasons you want to have this gun. Maybe that will help? Obviously there will still be ways for people to slip through the cracks illegally, but if we make it much more difficult to acquire these weapons, it has to help at least a little bit. I mean again lets look at the timelines...in fact the New York Times just came out with a great piece on the all the recent shooters mental makeups and how they were still able to get weapons. Adam Lanza from Sandy Hook had a known history of mental illness and still was able to buy guns and murder 26 people, mostly children. This Mateen ass hole bought his guns legally when he had issues. John Houser, was denied a gun permit in 2006 because of his past, then was allowed to legally buy guns in 2014, he killed 2 people at movie theater. There are countless other examples. I don't know what else to do, I mean I'm just a 24 year old fake blogger that lives in his dad's basement, I'm not the idea man for the U.S. government, they're the ones that need to do something, and do something drastic. IDK maybe my blog sucks and makes no sense, but to me it does, we cannot just say things, we need to make changes, this country is absolutely fucked if we do not. We cannot have another shooting in 3 weeks where countless innocent people are killed in cold blood for no fucking reason. These attacks can happen to anyone, at any time, anywhere, when is enough going to be enough? _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Seriously, read this from NYT, it's sickening but a must read. http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2015/10/03/us/how-mass-shooters-got-their-guns.html?smid=fb-share&_r=0 Song: Best of Me Artist: The Starting Line Album: Say It Like You Mean It (2003) Pop-punk from middle school will always been my favorite music.
