Just like that the Red Sox career of probably the most frustration player I've ever witnessed is officially over. It was just announced that the Red Sox traded pitcher Clay Buccholz to the Philadelphia Phillies for minor league second basemen Josh Tobias. After parts of 10 seasons with the Red Sox the ride is over.
After throwing a no hitter in his second career major league start back in 2007 the Clay Buccholz hype was at all time high. I remember watching the end of that game, it was right before my sophomore year of high school started. Now as a 25 year old Clay is gone, looking at time in that way it is absolutely crazy Buccholz has been on the Red Sox for that long and what was even crazier is how everybody kept saying about all the potential he had. The dude is a 10 year major league vet and we're still talking potential, like at what point do you realize what Clay Buccholz is? When healthy he can give you some extremely quality innings. Even glimpses of greatness. As Red Sox fans we saw what he did in 2010 and for the first 3 months of 2013. But for most of the other 8 plus seasons it was annual trips to the DL and never being the consistent top of the rotation starter everybody was expecting after Clay no hit the Orioles in 2007. Buccholz during his time in Boston was a 2 time All-Star but also the most frustating player of all time with his inconsistencies and inabilities to give the Red Sox a full season's worth of starts. Yet despite all of this I'm kind of sad to see him go. After a HORRIBLE start to 2016. Like historically horrible start he actually wasn't that bad for the Red Sox down the stretch, especially when you consider the role the Red Sox gave him. It was his first time he was not starting since he became a full time starting pitcher in 2008. He got demoted and it was actually the wake up call that he needed. In the 2nd half of the season his era was 3.22 and he went 5-1. In the first half Buccholz was 2-7 with a 5.22 era. In the playoffs he gave the Red Sox their best starting performance of the series in game 3. I'm okay with moving on from Buccholz considering how frustrating he was to deal with as a Red Sox fan and the quality of the rest of their starters but they basically traded him for a bag of balls.
10 seasons. 81-61. 3.96 ERA. Not horrible but not what anybody was expecting after 2007. Goodbye Clay.
P.S. After Papi retiring, Tazawa signing with the Marlins and Buccholz to the Phils. The Red Sox lost 3 of their 4 most tenured players this off season. This is absolutely insane to me.
That's right JBJ who debuted in 2013 is now the Red Sox 2nd longest tenured player and I feel like I'm 65 years old.

Via: abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/pearl-jam-tupac-2017-rock-roll-hall-nominees/story?id=42878231 The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has announced its list of 2017 inductees in the performers category. They include three enduring bands from the classic-rock world, one of the most popular groups of the grunge-rock era, a legendary folk singer and peace activist, and an influential rapper whose life was cut short by violence. Next year's honorees in the performers category are Yes, Electric Light Orchestra, Journey, Pearl Jam, Joan Baez and Tupac Shakur. The 2017 ceremony is scheduled for April 7 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Artists become eligible for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 25 years after the release of their first album or single. Yes, ELO, and Baez have been eligible for more than 20 years and Journey first was eligible in 2000. In contrast, Pearl Jam and Tupac both were chosen for induction in their first year of eligibility. Interestingly, the 2017 inductees all received their first Rock Hall nomination this year except for Yes, who also was nominated for the classes of 2014 and 2016. In addition, Chic guitarist and acclaimed producer and songwriter Nile Rodgers will be inducted into the Rock Hall in conjunction with receiving the award for musical excellence. It's worth noting that Chic has been nominated in the performers category 11 times, including this year, but has yet to be inducted. In commemoration of the class of 2017 honorees, a new exhibit saluting the inductees will open at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland on March 30. Where else can you have a night honoring the Electric Light Orchestra and Tupac? Only at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, that's where! That has to be the first time in history those two artists have been mentioned in the same breath, right? The 2017 inductees are headlined by Pearl Jam and Tupac (RIP in peace/come out of hiding) who both are being inducted in their first year of eligibility. Both insanely deserving inductees. First Pearl Jam who along with Nirvana changed the landscape of music in America with the early 90's grunge era. They've since adapted as the grunge craze of the early 90's morphed into the punk revival with Green Day in the mid 90's and stayed relevant as ever for the last 25 years as one of the most popular bands in rock. Big year for Eddie Vedder too, as he was basically a treated like a former player during the Cubs 108-year curse breaking World Series run. Gets to cap it off with induction into the Rock & Roll HOF not a bad 2016 for him. As for Tupac, he is the first solo hip hop artist to be inducted into the HOF. It's kind of crazy to think about but at the same time, not really if you just consider the time-frame. Rap and Hip-Hop in the grand scheme of music is still a baby. It didn't exist until the late 70's. It takes 25 years at minimum to get in. I'm sure more rappers will get inducted as time passes and they become eligable but if there's going to be a first solo rapper inducted, Tupac is the perfect choice. As for the rest of the inductees I can't lie I kind of have a problem with them getting in. Yes, ELO, and Joan Boaz have been eligible for over 20 years and are just getting in now? I know a music HOF isn't held to the same standards as the HOF's in sports but if it takes you over 20 years to make it in you aren't a real HOFer. Sorry someone had to say it. Yeah, Mr. Blue Sky is a great song but I mean come on if you aren't a HOFer after like 5 years on the ballot then you don't deserve to be in. Just because you had a few hits doesn't mean you should be in the Hall of Fame. It's like with baseball they finally smartened up and decided 15 years on the ballot was too long and bumped it down to 10. If your catalog isn't strong enough to make it in after 40+ years then I think it's time to set a precedent and say you shouldn't be allowed in to Hall of Fame. It's getting too watered down. When I look back on 2016 unlike all the people who cry on social media I will actually remember the year fondly. You realize celebrities die every year, right?
I had a lot of great times this year with some great people. I went from "you're gonna die tomorrow" fat, to "at least you don't need a seat belt extender on an airplane anymore" fat. It was a great year for sports and even better for music (IMO). Lots of great music in 2016 and this blog is to share some of my favorite songs from the year that was. It's no secret that I'm an alt-rock guy at heart, and sure there's gonna be a lot of that on this list but you may have some surprises when you see what I included. No rankings here just songs that I enjoyed in the year 2016 that I wanted to share with all the loyal readers of DOL. Hope you enjoy! No Kanye or Beyonce. I'm not a sheep.
"Pink + White": Frank Ocean (Blonde)
After being out of the spotlight for nearly 4 years, Frank Ocean released his 2nd studio album "Blonde" in 2016 and it did not disappoint. The raw emotion and range of sounds in Frank Ocean's music is what makes me and so many more people fans of his work. Blonde was widely regarded as one of the best albums of the year by critics and deservingly so. Frank Ocean is a genius and pink + white is my personal favorite from the album. "I Feel It Coming" "Starboy": The Weeknd (Starboy)
I still need to listen to Starboy in its entirety but from what I've heard already I've loved. If you've listened to the radio in the last 3 months you've probably heard Starboy and it's a certified banger. I love that song, but his latest single "I Feel It Coming" is a melodic masterpiece. Sounds like a young Michael and luckily for us this song is not about little boys. The orginal version still isn't on youtube so you get this perfomance from Fallon. The Weeknd may have the best pure voice in music right now. "Blow Your Mind (Mwah)": Dua Lipa (Dua Lipa) This song is just too catchy and too fun to be excluded from this list. I don't care who you are, or what music you're into this is a fun ass song. MWAH! "24K Magic": Bruno Mars (24K Magic) There's been times when I used to bash Bruno Mars, but that was when I was young and stupid. I've since smartened up and become a fan. The dude just puts out hit, after hit, after hit. Wicked talented, sure he's like 4 feet tall but it doesn't matter when every song you make blows up the top 40. Much like "Blow Your Mind" this is a fun song to sing along to that can be loved by fans of any genre. "New Song": Warpaint (Heads Up) Warpaint formed in 2004 but it wasn't until 2010 when they released their first studio album. It wasn't until this summer with this song where they broke onto my radar. Like most hipster-y bands they've gotten backlash online for having a "pop-y" single. I always hate when people bash musicians for trying to make money. Godforebid right? This song is amazing and any craft beer sipping hipsters that want to bash on a band for having a good, popular song can kick rocks. I can't wait to hear more from them. I think they have a bright future in the alt-rock scene. You've got the moves, you've the moveeees "Cheap Thrills": Sia featuring Sean Paul (This Is Acting) Anytime you can have a hit song in 2016 that has Sean fucking Paul in it you know you've done something right. "Modern Act": Cloud Nothings (Life Without Sound) I found this song by accident on Apple Music and just kept listening and fell in love with it. Extremely relatable lyrics. "Lighterless": Microwave (Much Love) Much like Cloud Nothings, Microwave is a band I found on apple music by accident. They're a little indie band from Atlanta still trying to make it. Will they I don't know, but when I heard this song I was hooked. "Standing in the Rain": Action Bronson, Dan Auerbach and Mark Ronson (Suicide Squad Soundtrack) While I wasn't a huge fan of the movie, I am a huge fan of this song. I've been saying it on this blog for months that I'm a big cross-genre collaborations guy and this is probably my favorite of 2016. You've got Dan Auerbach, the lead singer of the Black Keys (my all time favorite band) teaming up with every one's favorite chef turned rapped: Action Bronson. How cool is that? Heathens by 21 Pilots is trash, just like that trash band and should not have been the big lead song from the movie, should've been this. We all use milf-hunters to ease the pain, Action. "Soundcheck": Catfish and the Bottlemen (7) Another song nobody has heard of. "Sleep On The Floor": The Lumineers (Cleopatra) I've loved the Lumineers sound since the first time I heard them in 2012. Perfect mixture of folk and pop. Their debut album was incredible. Again lyrically this song is just so relatable to all the 20-somethings out there like me. Your boy is dying to live out this video in real life, minus the whole funeral part. "All We Ever Knew": The Head and The Heart (Signs of Light) I just really love song. Makes me happy when I hear it. Love the violins too. "Life Itself", "Youth" and "Pork Soda": Glass Animals (How To Be A Human Being) Whether it be the tribal beat to start "Life Itself" or the grooze in "Pork Soda" I cannot get enough of Glass Animals. Their album How To Be A Human Being is one of my favorites of the year. Their funky sound is just really refreshing in today's music. I love how much fun you can see they're having on stage in live performances too. They're on my "need to see live" check list. "Black Beatles": Rae Sremmurd ft. Gucci Mane (SremmLife 2) First off I cannot have a 2016 list and not include the song from the #MannequinChallenge. In (nearly) every video posted online this song was playing. Even Paul McCartney took part in the craze. Normally I'm not a fan of this kind of rap at all, but I love Black Beatles. It is actually pretty catchy and the whole concept of the song and video is pretty smart and funny. "The Sound": The 1975 (I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful yet So Unaware of It) When I first heard the 1975 a few years back with songs like "Girls" and "Sex" I was all in on them. Really dig their sound. They followed up their self-titled 2013 debut album with "I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful yet So Unaware of It" has been praised by critics. Rolling Stone said it was 2nd best rock album of the year. The Sound was a big reason why. The video is brillant as it makes fun of negative criticism the band has received. "She's Out of Her Mind": Blink-182 (California) When it was announced Blink-182 was going to go forward without Tom Delonge I can't lie I thought it'd be the end of them. I love Mark and Travis, they're great, but anytime a band loses its lead singer and guitarist it can be tough to bounce back from. Well Blink showed in 2016 they can do just fine without Tom as California as "She's Out of Her Mind" was top 5 hit on the alternative charts. The music video was an awesome tribute to their video for "What's My Age Again?" which is a staple of pop-punk history. "Still Breathing": Green Day (Revolution Radio) I had kind of given up on Green Day, didn't really pay much attention to what they did after American Idiot. That changed after the first time I heard this, one of my favorite Green Day songs I've ever heard. You can feel the anguish in Billie Joe's singing. Very heavy, but good song by think kings of punk. "One Dance": Drake (VIEWS) What can I say about Drizzy that hasn't already been said? Say whatever you want about the guy but the dude knows how to make a banger. "Too Good" is probably my favorite song from VIEWS but you can't find a good version on youtube. Make sure you hear that if you haven't yet. "WALLS" by Kings of Leon in its entirety. WALLS is personally my favorite album of 2016. Kings of Leon have a steady hold in my top 5 favorite bands of all time, so I'm a little biased but I honestly cannot even find the words to say to describe how much a love this album. I actually have the CD of it in my car. Who still buys CDs? I do. The four songs I included are my personal 4 favorites from the 10 on record but they are all very good, many differents sounds on the album too which is awesome, they can mix it up and still rock your face off. Caleb's vocals still give me goosebumps. Cannot wait to see them at the garden. "Talk Too Much": COIN This is my favorite song of the year. The guitar riff is contagiously catchy, and I mean I think they like stole the whole concept from my brain. If there's ever been a song that embodies Ryan "Doz" M****** it's this. I am the KING of saying or doing the wrong thing with the ladies. I simply talk too much. Right when I think things are going well I say or do the wrong thing. What makes me feel a little bit better is that I'm obviously not the only person who feels this way. Nothing like shared misery am I right guys? Apart from that it is also one of the catchiest songs of the year in rock. You'd never guess COIN is from Nashville with their new wav-y sound they've broken the bold of how Nashville acts sound. Very excited for their yet to be titled sophomore album that features this track to be released. I've probably listened to it 5 times a day since it was released, need more from these guys. Just shut me up already!
It happens basically every season but the New England Patriots have won the AFC East again. For the 8th year in a row and 14th time since 2001 the Pats are the class of the AFC East. I just want to take a moment to recognize how big of a deal it is. Sure you can bash the AFC East as a whole but the Patriots do not slip up in the regular season. They've had a revolving door of key players come and go during this stretch. In 09 when the streak started Brady was throwing to Randy Moss, now it's Malcom Mitchell. They've had injuries, suspensions, fuck even lost a guy to a murder conviction yet year in and year out one thing you can basically guarentee is that the Patriots will be AFC East Champs. That is all thanks to Tom Brady and Bill Belichick.
In the two years (2002, 2008) they didn't win the division since 2001 they had the same record as the team who did (9-7 in 02 and 11-5 in 08) and lost out on tie-breakers so technically they haven't had a team in the division finish with a better record than them since 2000. I know people will shit on how "bad" the AFC East is and that the accomplishment isn't a big deal and those people are simply idiots. Sure, the AFC East gets made fun of because of the Patriots dominance but it's not their fault they haven't really been challenged since by anybody in a long time. Do you blame the hammer against the nail? You play who you're scheduled against, it's not their fault the other teams in the division have struggled. It's partly because of the Patriots, you can't just say the division is trash, it's partly trash because they all are basically guaranteed 2 losses from matchups with the Pats who have dominated the league for 15 years. Plus as division champs every season they have to play the division champs from the other divisions in the AFC so they actually usually have a tougher schedule than the rest of the teams in the division. 8 straight years of winning your division is something that has never been done before in the history of the NFL and should be celebrated. 8 straight years of doing anything well is a big deal. I can't even remember the last time I went 8 straight hours without making a complete fool out of myself. It shows the level on dominance and consistency this franchise has had since Tom Brady took over in 2001. In seasons where he was the starter he's won the division every year but once. Who else can say that in any sports over that long of a time period? The Patriots play for Super Bowls so division titles aren't that big of a deal in Foxboro, but in order to win the Super Bowl you need to make the playoffs and winning your division guarantees that and a home playoff game. It's the first check mark on the way to a championship. P.S. The Patriots have won more (or as many) division titles in this 8 year period than the following franchises have in their entire history. New York Jets: 4 Baltimore Ravens: 4 Houston Texans: 3 Jacksonville Jaguars: 2 Detriot Lions: 4 Arizona Cardinals: 3 The Entire NFC South Seattle Seahawks, Kansas City Chiefs and New York Giants have all won their respective divisions 8 times. I feel like Denzel is one of the rare type of celebrities where basically everybody likes them. There aren't many, it's like Denzel, Ellen, and Tom Hanks. Honestly like who doesn't love Tom Hanks?
Well when Denzel was asked about "fake news" the two time Academy-Award winner gave a great blurb about the state of today's media.
"If you don't read the newspaper, you're uninformed. If you do read it, you're misinformed".
It is pretty crazy how fake news is just a thing now. I still don't entirely understand what is going on but I know facebook is some how involved. Shocker there. It doesn't matter if the information is fake because people are making money off clicks, if you find out afterwards it's not true, they don't care. You can't unclick. They got their ad money. It's like people don't care about being right, they just want to be first. It is pretty insane to think about. Isn't the whole idea about news to be correct? Who cares if you're the first person to tell me something when it's not true. It's like people who comment on things "first". Like who fucking cares you loser? Oh you were on instagram at the exact moment a new meme got posted. Good for you. Nobody cares. I'm still gonna laugh at when I see on my phone 2 minutes after you. President-Elect Trump and Kanye West met at Trump Tower today and the interent is losing it's mind right now. I for one am in a Preztel currently. Cannot make heads or tails of what is going on. I thought Kanye was busy tricking people into thinking he's going insane to make more money but I guess not. Just showing up to dap-up the leader of (for now) the free world in a plain black-crew neck that probably cost more than car. What a day to be alive.
As for the picture, it's pure gold. We've got Trump making the "I don't think that fart was a fart" face
And Mr. West doing his best Barry Sanders "I don't smile for anybody" impression.
Realistically, this guy hit the nail on the head. That's why he has the blue-check mark and I'm blogging before I have to go deliver pizza. Oh and I turn 25 on Thursday. Go me!
For a brief moment we all saw exactly what was going through the Donald's mind.
via: techcrunch.com/2016/12/13/snapchat-introduces-groups-with-up-to-16-people-plus-new-creative-tools/
Snapchat has added some new features, including Groups, a new group chat that lets up to 16 friends share conversation and media. Group chats self-delete after 24 hours be fault, and Snaps sent within a group can be opened only once, and replayed only once, by each member of the group, just like a regular Snap. The new Group feature also includes an easy way to pop out to individual chat with anyone within the Group, letting you tap on any member’s name when they’re active in a chat and jump into a one-on-one conversation. All features supported in Chat are supported in Groups, including stickers, vote and video notes, Bitmoji and more. Snapchat is also introducing new creative tools for use composing your Snaps. There are Scissors that let you snip out part of a Snap and make it into its own sticker, which will then be available in the sticker drawer. This is launching on iOS first, with an Android version coming later Also new is the addition of Paintbrush, a feature that you can use on any Snaps you have in memories, which works similar to how artistic filter apps like Prisma work. Also new is Shazam support built right into the Snapchat camera, which lets you identify music playing right within the app. Finally snapchat gave the people what they wanted and introduced group chats for snapchat. Now you can share "media" between you and up to 15 friends. Pretty cool stuff, you read the italized shit, I don't need to recap all of that. As the guy who's usually the butt of every joke in the group chat, or the one getting roasted by a dozen different people I hate this move because it just gives my friends another avenue to do so. But at the same as the guy who's usually the butt of every joke in the group chat, or the one getting roasted by a dozen different people I'm a huge fan of this new platform. Before in your run of the mill imessage groupchat that stuff would be there forever for everybody to go back to make fun of. "Oh look I can scroll back 3 weeks and bring up something to make fun of Doz" - everybody I know. Well now you can't mofo. That's right those days are over (sorta). With snapchat group chats it will "disappear" after viewing. Sure, I suppose someone can screenshot, but at least you know who is the one screen shotting. Just trying to be positive. This basically is like snapchat DM just with all of your friends. And like snapchat DMs it can disappear so if you can something stupid, it potentially can be gone forever. Big fan of that. That's why I love using it when talking to chicks because I don't have to relive the hot awkward mess that is me trying to talk to girls. Nobody wants to read that twice. Sure once in a while there will be a good message that I wish I could remember seeing, but for every one of those there's about 15 that are better left deleted directly after viewing.
