Today is the 15th anniversary of the death of Joey Ramone. Unfortunately every original member of the Ramones died prematurely. The Ramones were legendary with their punk rock and style. They changed music forever with their 1976 debut album "The Ramones".
In honor of Joey Ramone, today's song of the day will be the song that got it all started for them "Blitzkrieg Bop" 40 years later It's almost impossible to go to an NBA or NHL game without hearing this song now. The Ramones might be gone but their legacy will live on forever. Song of the Day April 15th is Blitzkrieg Bop by The Ramones from their self title debut album "The Ramones"

Switching up the format on dozonlife and putting the song first! #progress Song of the day for April 14th 2016 is "The Sign" by Ace of Base. The Sign comes off of 1993's album The Sign. It's Thursday so I figured I'd do an older song. I was gonna do the first song that came up on 90's Pop Pandora (GOAT of Pandora stations) but it was Wilson Phillips Hold On and idfw that song so it got replaced with this Swedish banger. The Sign is a huge guilty pleasure song for me, actually I won't even call it a guilty pleasure cause I straight up like this song and don't care what anybody thinks. Early 90's jam piece. I like all their hits that I've heard as a matter of fact. Since I'm in a good mood from the Celtics comeback last night I'm gonna do something special, and have a second half to the song of the day.....The Pitch Perfect version. Just when you thought I was being suspect for making this my song of the day, I just double down with a Pitch Perfect song. That's how things roll on Doz on Life. Get used to it. P.S. I LOVE Pitch Perfect. I have both on Blu Ray....#3 comes out in 2017. Song of the Day for April 13th 2016 is Badfish by Sublime. Comes off of their 1992 album 40 oz. to Freedom. I heard Sublime on the radio the other day it gotten really excited because they remind me of summer so much. When I think summer music, Sublime is one of the first bands that comes to mind. Once it starts warming up it's Sublime season. We're only a couple months away now from summer and to me they are the ultimate summer band, I think of summers growing up and kids were trying to be cool and show the "older music" (this is in like summer 2006) they were into and everybody would listen to them. Music is all about triggering memories and when I think Sublime I think summer. We'll all be at the beach before you know it. I picked Badfish just because it's my favorite song by them. Probably should have done something a little more upbeat after talking about how much they remind me of summer and good times, but again it's my website, let me do me. Really sucks Brad Nowell died so young we were robbed of a great band that was really starting to take off. Who knows what could have been? Anyways here is the dozonlife song of the day for April 13th. Song of the day April 12th is "GO!" by M83 (featuring Mai Lan on vocals) off of their latest album Junk. Now I'm not gonna act like I'm up to date on electronic music because I'm not. Only M83 song I knew before this was Midnight City which is still one of the best songs of the last 5 years. I heard this on bru yesterday and liked it, that's all it takes to become the song of the day on dozonlife. This track is pretty funky with a solid guitar solo mixed in. Was honestly shocked something this new was being played on BRU. They still play the Atari's and they're a one hit wonder.... from 2003....who's one hit was a cover song. Let new music get a chance! Anyways here's the song of the day for April 12th! Song of the day April 11th is Snap Out of It by the Arctic Monkeys. This is a deep track off their most recent album AM (2013). Wicked good album if you haven't heard it yet what are you waiting for? Song of the day for April 8th is The Sound of Silence by.........Disturbed. Yes, Disturbed.... you know the same band that gave us songs like "10,000 Fists" and "Stupify". Idk what is crazier in 2016 music currently; the fact that their is a song about Peter Pan sung by a little boy that is getting serious radio play or that the band that gave us "Down With The Sickness" is covering Simon and fucking Garfunkel. Like Aubrey Graham said, what a time to be alive. Well Disturbed has in fact covered the Simon and Garfunkel classic and they did it in their own way. I saw this was hot on apple music the other day and it blew my mind. At first I thought that they must have just had a song with the same title, I didn't think it was a cover for some reason I just couldn't register that Disturbed covered Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel. Mainly just because when I think Disturbed I think of the heavy stuff they did that was popular when I was like 11. Is that stereotyping? My bad. I actually used to really like Disturbed in middle school, and I think we may have used it for pump music for football in high school but don't quote me there. However overtime my tastes changed and I don't really listen to heavy metal anymore. TBH I didn't even know they were still making music. (looked it up, they broke up in 2011 and just got back together.....interesting) What's really strange is that the original song is making a huge comeback right now. After being used in a video poking fun at Ben Affleck's reaction to a question about the bad Batman v. Superman was receiving that went extremely viral, it has actually re-charted on the Billboard Rock chart over 50 years after it's release. That's insane to me that it got popular enough to chart against songs that are weeks old. It's a great song but just shows how much influence the internet can have. Can make a song that is as old as my mom re enter the charts. BTW the Affleck video is one of the funniest things I've seen this year. What really amazes me is how great this cover is. Disturbed lead singer David Draiman does a phenomenal job. You can feel the emotion in his voice when you listen. This song is not like the Disturbed you may have heard 15 years ago as it is much lighter, so if you've not enjoyed their music in the past because of how dark and heavy it may have been I have a feeling you may change your tune with this song. Moms would enjoy this cover. I'm sure some diehard heavy metal hardos will bash this cover and call it "selling out" but anybody who thinks that is a fool. I was honestly moved by this performance, it gave me chills and almost made me cry, the song is amazing. I'll stick to my rules, before I forget, this song comes off of their 2015 album "Immortalized". The song was released a single in December but is just really starting to pick up steam. Please give this live version for Conan the other week a listen. Here is the song of the day for April 8th, 2016 "The Sound of Silence" by Disturbed. Song of the day April 7th is The Duck Song. Since it's Thursday I'll do a little #tbt action. I remember one of my freshmen year roommates showing me this and geeking out. So stupid but so funny. I'm laughing just thinking about it. Crazy how quickly time passes. Song of the Day for April 6th is Tompkins Square Park by Mumford and Sons. Tompkins Square Park is the first track on their latest album "Wilder Mind" (2015). I've recently bought a couple of CD's for the first time in literally a decade and this is one of the few I actually have in my car currently. Yes in 2016 I'm using CDs. Mumford and Sons drastically changed their signature sound for this album, no banjos and added more electric guitars and drums for a more traditional rock sound. Still the same great lyrical content. I really love their first two albums but Wilder Mind is worth a listen. Today's song of the day is track #1 off that album. I'm using the live version because the live version of good bands is usually better, I love live music, I NEED to see Mumford and Sons live at some point, they're in my top 3 favorite acts out right now. Probably #2 after The Black Keys. Give this whole album a chance, it's a lot different for their other stuff as I said but I still really enjoyed it. Ditmas is personally my favorite song off of it, this is a close second. Here is Tompkins Square Park, the song of the day for April 6th, 2016. Enjoy Song of the Day for April 5th is Bad Day by Daniel Powter. BIG one hit wonder from 2006. This is dedicated to me, and everybody else who had UNC last night. Talk about getting your heart ripped out. Just gotta bounce back and be better but that is the kind of gambling loss that can put a man in an early grave. Song of the Day for April 4th is "Give Me A Try" by the Wombats. Comes off of their 2015 album 'Glitterbug". I've heard this song a few times on WBRU recently, really liked it but had no idea who this band was. So I Shazaamed it. Such an underrated app. Blows my mind how it works, all technology does. But I'm not going down that rabbit hole right now. I did a little more research about the Wombats aka looked them up on wikipedia. Learned that they're from England but I could've told you that after listening to this song for 20 seconds. I've started to get a lot more into British bands and TV shows a lot of good shit across the pond. Watch Catastrophe if you like a good romantic-comedy tv show. I would even considering visiting that dark pit just because of the music that comes from England. Anyways this song is really good. Very upbeat, like a better version of Walk the Moon. Very relatable for me, I'm all about trying to get the ladies to give me a try. So far (not) so good. This song is about a year old, but just starting to pick up some stream on American alternative radio. Interesting video to say the least...love the blonde at the 2 minute mark. Give this song a try and listen! (See what I did there?) |
