Thanks to pseudo-safety rules from a league that allowed Tua Tagovailoa to play in a game four days after a concussion, the No Fun League banned secondary helmets for a decade, effectively killing some of the best throwback uniforms in the process.
In 2021 a rule change that went into effect this season resurrected the secondary helmet (as long as they meet specific requirements I covered when the story broke last year). Some teams with no history, like the Houston Texans, opted for a new alternate helmet, while teams like the Eagles, Cowboys and Falcons are bringing back the classics.
Well, this Sunday, the New England Patriots are rocking their red throwbacks for the first time since Week 7 of the 2012 season (a game I just so happened to attend).
This time they're going above and beyond with the details.
Even in 2009, for the 50th anniversary of the AFL, and in 2010-2012 when the Patriots wore red at home, they kept their current logo on end zones and midfield logo. They haven't painted the field yet, but there are throwback banners up, and the turf at Gillette is clean-shaven. We're getting the ol' three-point stance Pat Patriot at midfield!
I'm fucking amped. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, and boy did I miss these unis. Sure, we're 1-3, and Mac is banged up, but the perfect way to get back into the win column against a very beatable Lions team (they lead the league in points allowed) is a little extra swag boost from one of the greatest unis in NFL history. I'm firmly on the record that I hate the Patriots' current uniforms. They reek of bad post-break-up haircut, except a bad haircut will naturally fix itself over time. These current Wal-Mart uniforms are worse than Mac Jones' dance moves.
Next stop: bringing the 90s look back into the mix!
Enough time has passed. The Pats could easily rock these with their current helmets; it'd look fantastic (I'll take anything to get the Brady-break-ups off the field). That's a conversation for another day. I'm just pumped the Pats are finally allowed to wear their red unis again, and I love how they're going all out celebrating the look. They're scheduled to wear them again week 13 vs. the Bills on Thursday Night Football.

Song: I'm In Love With You (2022) Artist: The 1975 Album: Being Funny In a Foreign Language Tom and Gisele need to listen to The 1975 and remember the good times,,,,,,for the kids. P.S.
The 1975 are coming to Mohegan 11/3 and Boston 11/4-5 who's tryna see them with your favorite niche blogger???
Last night I did something that only a small number of people in this country have; I saw Bros in theaters.
I saw all the news yesterday about its box office numbers and wanted to see the movie before I give my two cents.
Everybody knows Ole Dozo is an ally to the LGBTQ+ community. I've been blogging my support since the beginning of DOL in 2016. I call out my friends that still say f@g. It's been an open secret in my circle for years that I don't hate T porn (a trans woman fucking a cis woman is like lesbian porn on steroids). I think it's super fucked up that it's more difficult for queer couples to adopt when kids are stuck in the system; I don't need to go down this path right now, we know I'm a hashtag good guy. I'll get off the soapbox. We're here to talk about a Rom-Com that flopped. Bros did not do too well in its opening weekend. I've seen many numbers ranging from 4 to 10 million at the box office. Either way, those numbers stink, and understandably the film's leading man and writer, Billy Eichner, didn't love that. As a creator, I get it. I've written hundreds of great blogs that didn't get the respect they deserve because I'm too niche and unknown. If I had cards to play, I'd use them, so again, understandably, Eichner is blaming homophobia for Bros underwhelming performance.
I mean, he's not entirely wrong; there are certainly pockets of this country that will never see this movie because it's about gay love. He's definitely behind the eight-ball in that spot. Despite miles of progress during my lifetime, there's still tons of hate towards the queer community, BUTTTTT, it can also be true that the movie-going experience and what sells in this country have radically shifted as well.
In middle and high school, going to the movies with friends happened almost every weekend. I have hundreds of ticket stubs saved from those classics (and some flops too). When I was growing up, there were blockbuster comedies every month. The 2000s were a golden era of hilarity. Changing tastes, limitless streaming options, studios only making superhero movies, and many other factors have altered how people view content. "Cancel culture" and the internet have certainly affected the comedy industry, but it's not the only reason. I could list 25 great comedies that came out before I graduated high school (2010) without blinking an eye, but in the last decade plus, there have been far fewer. I love movies like Horrible Bosses and Bridesmaids that came out while I was in college, but in the last decade, other than Game Night, I have a hard time recalling a great comedy I saw in theaters. Studios just aren't making them anymore. Studios want to make money, and they know there's a greater risk of a 95-minute comedy flopping than some three-hour nerd fest superhero bull shit. They're not my swag, but those are what sell. You don't need to see a comedy on the big screen. In fact, it's usually better on your couch with some friends and maybe a little reefer. Nowadays, the big screen is for action and special effects. The following tweets give fair reasons why Bros did not perform well at the box office:
It would be lazy and homophobic to say that gay people don't like sports because that's simply untrue. There are tons of gay sports fans, buuuuut I don't think Billy Eichner would call himself one. That played a role in this flop as well. It's October, bro. If you're not getting dragged to a pumpkin patch, corn maze, or apple orchard, you're probably watching baseball, college football, or the NFL (if not all three) on weekend nights. Billy, you're not just competing against the other movies in theaters right now (other than Smile I couldn't name another one...I guess Avatar 2 since I accidentally saw a few blurry minutes of that, but that's it). Just because someone would rather watch Bills-Ravens on a Sunday afternoon doesn't mean they don't think two men or two women should be barred from marriage.
Maybe this is cliche too, but again it's October. Had this movie been released during Pride Month (June), I'm sure that would've boosted numbies too. For the most part, if you're going to the movies in October, it's likely some seasonal scary shit. I don't have the data in front of me, but I know I saw the Hangover, Pineapple Express, and Bruno in the summer. Speaking of, Bruno made 138.8 million dollars, according to Wikipedia. It was a gay comedy that starred an actual star in Sasha Baron Cohen. I respect Eichner's decision to have an all-queer cast in Bros, but it came at the cost of star power. Jai Rodriguez from the OG Queer Eye and the football coach from Glee were arguably the most famous people in the movie outside of Eichner (besides a Debra Messing cameo; s/o Rhode Island). Plus, you're Billy Eichner. I loved you as Craig Middlebrooks, and Billy on the Street is funny, but are you a leading man? There's a reason She's Out of My League is Jay Baruchel's only leading role. Look, Billy, I get your disappointment; I honestly do. I agree that just because something isn't commercially successful doesn't mean it's not good. Tons of great music gets no love, while trash wins awards and gets the streams. Big Bang Theory ran for 12 seasons, while Nathan For You was only on for four. I'll even give you that homophobia deserves a piece of the blame pie, but all the reasons I just listed and others I probably forgot because I'm trying to improve my writing time deserve a slice as well. Bros was funny. I was one of three people in the audience last night, and I laughed out loud multiple times, but the way people consume media has changed, and this movie had little to no star power. No doubt people wrote this movie off solely for being a queer movie, but that's a lazy excuse. I wouldn't be shocked to see Bros in the Netflix Top 10 in eight months, but an October release with essentially no star power didn't do you any favors. I'm a woke pussy fascism-hating lib as well, but like MJ said, Republicans buy sneakers too. The ultimatum marketing probably didn't help. All that being said, see Bros, so the homophobes celebrating its failure don't win. It's cute and funny. I'm not a gay dude, but Billy's love interest in the movie is objectively hot. I'll end with this, I agree with this tweet. It's unfair to put the future on an entire sub-genre on Billy Eichner's hairy shoulders.
Back in September 2018, Paramore played their breakout song “Misery Business” for what Hayley Williams indicated would be “the last time for a really long time.” She explained, “This is a choice that we’ve made because we feel that we should, we feel like it’s time to move away from it for a little while.” Last night, in California, Paramore brought back “Misery Business,” as Rolling Stone and Loudwire note. “Four years ago, we said we were gonna retire this song for a little while, and I guess technically we did,” Williams said. “But what we did not know was that just about five minutes after I got canceled for saying the word ‘whore’ in a song, all of TikTok decided that it was OK. Make it make sense.” She continued: "But I remember a time when we had a Myspace, and we were still a really small band. We were really small. And we hadn’t even put out this song and we started noticing that kids were calling themselves “Parawhores.” And, we were like, “Uggh, that’s weird!” But, I guess, what I’m trying to say is, it’s a word, and if you’re cool you won’t call a woman a whore because that’s bullshit. You know, we can all learn from ourselves, right? All right, but, just, for the record, 90 percent of you said “whore” tonight. That’s all I’m gonna say—I’m not gonna preach about it. I’m just gonna say thank you for being nostalgic about this because this is one of the coolest moments of our show, and it’s very nice to feel like there’s a reason to bring it back that’s positive." This past April, Hayley Williams joined Billie Eilish and Finneas at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival to play “Misery Business.” In a recent interview with Laura Snapes for The Guardian, Williams said she tried to convince Eilish not to cover the song but decided “it shouldn’t be about me.” Williams explained, “People grow and learn. I’d already called myself out and done a lot of work on the misogyny I’d metabolized as a young girl.” Williams also said regarding the 2007 single, “Only now that we’ve felt lighter about the band, it’s like I don’t feel defined by that song.” I guess second chances *do* matter, and people *sometimes* change because after four years of I well refuse, I refuse, I refuse-ing to play arguably their signature song "Misery Business," Paramore has started playing their 2007 classic again. I blogged the story back in 2018 (holy shit, what a different writer I was) and hated the move then, but I understood where Hayley was coming from. Four years later, with a new album to promote, it looks like p-more has realized this was an objectively bad decision as "Misery Business" broke them into the mainstream and paved the way for 15+ years of genre-neutral bangers. People fucking love it, and they wanna hear it live. I've grown like a redwood in the seven calendar years DOL has been running. I consider myself a feminist; some may even call me an SJW, but at the end of the day, I want people to be free and happy and for life to be as good as possible for as many people as possible. Whether you believe in equality or not, we're all going to die someday, and life can be gone in the blink of an eye. There's no reason to withhold awesome things like one of the most iconic emo songs of all time from millions of fans spending good money to watch you live in the post-Covid world. I'm glad Paramore changed their tune and started playing Misery Business again. Hayley let the fans sing that oh, so controversial line to take the blood off her hands, but honestly, all that matters is Paramore is fucking back, and they're playing the hits! It just feels soooo good! Whether it's Paramore or any other artist under the sun, you gotta play the hits. I'm all for exposing fans to your new music on tours and giving some deep tracks love during concerts for the diehards, but it's so fucking ridiculous that some artists refuse to play their biggest hits live. I recently watched Derek Jeter's The Captain on HULU, and in that doc, Don Mattingly says something about not dogging it because you never know who's watching. A million athletes have said similar things about this possibly being the one time in someone's life they see me play, so I'm going to give it my all; musicians should have the same sentiment. How is it I've seen Florence + the Machine three times, and they still haven't played "No Light, No Light??????" I saw Tame Impala twice in a week and didn't hear "The Moment." I think you get the point. Despite plenty of changes since I wrote the original blog back in 2018, I stand by what I said then and am glad Hayley Williams and Paramore brought back a classic loved by millions. I hope you're reading this, Klondike. It's never too late to do the right thing. P.S. Technically, "The Moment" isn't a big hit, it's just my favorite Tame Impala song, but the point remains, artists should play their hits & most beloved songs at every show because it's gonna be the only time some fans ever get a chance to see them. Make it count! I should've realized it sooner, but the view count and overall vibe swayed me. It took me until like March to realize the video is fan-made and isn't official. I saw Tame on March 12th and March 16th and they played "The Moment" on 4th, 15th, and 19th...probably even more times on the Slow Rush tour, but I'm not gonna dissect every set list for a point I've already made like four times lol. Long live "Misery Business!"
