I wanna start out this blog by saying I love Paramore. For real....I follow like 4 fan accounts on instagram.
After Laughter got me all the way in, but I had always liked their hits. It wasn't until last year where I truly dove right in. I love After Laughter. Hayley Williams voice mixed with a wide arrange of musical stylings (as we all know Paramore is a genre-neutral band) makes my ears tingle with glee. I listen to Paramore daily. They're one of my favorite acts in the game rn. Everybody (for the most part) likes them. It's like the Michael Scott line about pizza. Rich people like pizza, poor people like pizza, white people like pizza, black people... do black people like pizza? They do, and the same could be said for Paramore. There were two fucking big articles written about the very topic last month.
I saw a meme that said "just because I rolled up blasting paramore doesn't mean I won't shoot". To me and my dark danky memeness that was gold. No, you're racist for thinking that. I tried to find it but since I like 8490 IGs a day I could be scrolling for years trying to find it.
If you want to know my favorite deep track it's Proof. As if I wasn't already mad enough I didn't see them during the AL tour now this new breaks. Misery Business is dead until further notice. Ughhh. It was never my attention to get this butthurt, but here I am. I'm not the only one.
I am wicked bummed to see them be the latest act to fall victim to the pussification of America and even more bummed that as of now I'll never hear it live :( Gonna have to wait way more than 8 long months to ever hear Misery Business live. When I first saw the headline that Paramore was retiring Misery Business due to "controversial lyrics" I honest had to do a double take for a second. Like...What are they talking about? It's just possibly the most sing-a-long-able songs of its era (and I know every word to it). What am I missing? HOF emo/pop-punk/whatever label you wanna use from that time period song. I know the lyrics. What controversial lyrics are in Miz Biz?? I had to read the rest of the article to figure out what was so "controversial". It turns "Once a whore you're nothing more, I'm sorry that'll never change." is what put Miz Biz into an early grave. Oh no, it's slut shaming! FOH. I'm so fucking sick of fill in the blank shaming. Maybe people need to shamed? I've said it a million times fat shaming isn't even a thing because it's just reality. Being fat is bad. I have to deal with the health risks of it, it's not okay to be fat. It's not "fat shaming". It's just tough, because I love Hayley Williams and respect her wishes and since I'm in love with her I want her to be happy. I just think this is a little too PC and frankly fucking ridiculous. Also kind of overkill. I feel like they didn't have to kill it. It's like if you got a haircut and it was a half inch shorter than you like, so you just said fuck it and shaved your head to start fresh. Overkill, dude. It's not even that bad "Once a whore you're nothing more, I'm sorry that'll never change." I get I'm in a different place being a dude, but people (girls) throw that word all the time. Maybe that's her deeper point and exactly why she wants to get rid of it? but at the same time can we take a step back for a second. This isn't like Paramore has a song supporting rape. It's a high school girl talking shit. In the lexicon of offensive lyrics .. does this even scratch the surface? I wanna know the people who are so offended? Do they exist? It's a song by a high school aged girl about stealing a dude from another girl and making her feel bad. That is THE business of misery she's putting this girl who's got a body like an hourglass that's ticking like a clock though.....whore seems like the perfect word to use if you're asking me. "Excuse me Hayley! My great uncle was killed in Vietnam by a time released booby trap so I'm a little sensitive to clock references." Despite me saying all of that. I understand where she is coming from in saying these are lyrics she wrote as a teenager (it's crazy to think that Hayley still isn't 30 with how long Paramore has been famous for) don't reflect who she is now but also at the same time tough fucking shit. People grow over time and that's great. That doesn't change that your fans wanna hear your hits. Plain and simple. This isn't the "N-word song" by Paramore where I could understand wanting to scrap this from the set list. It's fucking Miz Biz. It's Paramore's most famous song and what put them on the fucking map. It's why you made it. Who knows what happens without that exposure. I love Paramore but I'm 100% serious. I think about that all the time with bands who have a ground breaking debut. Like if CRUSHCRUSHCRUSH (which I love) is the lead single is Paramore still Paramore today? I don't wanna hear the sick of playing it argument either. Sure it's from 2007, but guess what? The Rolling Stones still play Satisfaction. With Paramore's rotating line up the whole "sick of playing it" excuse is B.S. 2 of the 5 band members from 2007 aren't even in the band anymore and Zac Farro left the band for like 7 years lol. I just think bands owe it to their fans to play what they wanna hear and I don't think I'm going out on a limb when I say a lot of fans wanna hear Paramore's signature song when they are going to see them live. Ironically there's like 20 Paramore songs I like more, but it's still a fucking classic and a must play at live shows. It's why most people there in the audience probably became fans in the first place. When I saw Florence + the Machine I had literally one of the best nights of my life, but I couldn't help but be upset they didn't play "No Light, No Light" which I still think about to this day. And sure, you can't chose what stays and what fades away but I'd bet my paycheck that the majority of Paramore fans don't want Misery Business to fade away. I just think she could've stopped singing that lyric (which she's already done) instead of murdering an emo classic. Taylor Swift changed the line about telling her friends that her ex was gay to turn them off from dating him from the 2006 classic Pictures To Burn because it wasn't with the times anymore. So what do ya say, Hayley? Do what's right and bring back Biz Miz before fans RIOT*. *lol that was sooooooo corny. I'm sorry. RIP MIz Biz. At least their cover band is staying true.
