I apologize for all the super original and hilarious photoshop jokes you've had to endure online, but Cam Newton is once again a Carolina Panther! They're bringing him back on a one-year deal after losing Sam Darnold for the foreseeable future.
As a narrative guy, I love this signing!
Summer of 2020, I was banging the Cam drum like I was pre-Foo Fighters Dave Grohl and bought his jersey after week 1. I think I wore it MAYBE 3 times during his tenure in New England due to a combination of hating the Pats new uniforms, poor play, watching most games at home because of COVID, and gaining 3-5 lbs a week. Yaaayy!
It's safe to say that Cam Newton did not have a stellar 2020, but I was all for bringing him back this season. I thought he played well in the preseason; when he got cut, I wished him well. He might not be MVP Cam anymore, but IMO he deserves an NFL roster spot. Although, with his dynamic persona, I get why teams might've been hesitant to bring him in as a backup. Now Cam is back with the team that drafted him in a huge win for sentimental football fans. I don't think fresh off the street Cam can be any worse than what Darnold gave them.
After starting the season 3-0, the Panthers have dropped 5 of 6, but are still very much alive in the NFC playoff picture.
I want it on the record that I am rooting for Cam to lead the Panthers to the playoffs. That would be such an incredible story. People forget that the Panthers were 6-2 in 2018 then fell off when Cam got hurt (but kept playing). Last year was ugly, but I don't think Cam's finished just yet.
After all Cam Newton did for the Panthers organization, they could've handled his departure in a much more respectful way, but it's not too shocking after how they treated Steve Smith. Sure, they lost Super Bowl 50, and Cam's business decision was inexcusable and legitimately offended me as a football fan. Still, this picture up at Bank of America Stadium is such a fucking joke.

How are you going to omit the MVP? Imagine if the Pats had a display for the 28-3 comeback with a photo of only Malcolm Mitchell and Chris Long?
Hopefully, Carolina can do the right thing and give Cam the respect he deserves. Now that he's vaxxed, there's a chance he could return this weekend against the Cardinals, although with it being Thursday, that could be a tough ask. If he's not back this week, the narrative Gods may have blessed us with an all-time narrative bowl between struggling nothing franchises—the Panthers host Ron Rivera's Washington Football Team on November 21st.
