I'm currently working on a Patriots related blog, but had to mention this as it's breaking. Chris Sale will start for the American League in the All Star game tomorrow night against Max Scherzer of the Washington Nationals. It will be the 2nd straight year Sale starts for the AL. To me it's a no brainer, Sale has been far and away the most dominant starting pitcher in the American League this season. Nobody is tuning into the All Star game to see Jason Vargas. Sale leads the AL in innings pitched, strikeouts and whip. He's also 2nd in era with 2.75 clip and 2nd in wins with 11. Every time he's one the mound it's must watch stuff. With 178 K's he has a legitimate chance at 300 this season. Not only that, but he's a fiery competitor and pitches v quickly. Exactly what you want out of an ace. David Price could learn a thing or eight from this guy. Chris Sale has been all that was advertised and then some this season for the Red Sox. They gave up a kings ransom to acquire him, but so far it's been well worth it. Red Sox are 13-5 in Sale starts this year. In his first start as a Red Sox Sale struck out 7 over 7 shutout innings in a game the Red Sox would win in extra innings thanks to a Sandy Leon walk off HR. After that start Sale had a string of 8 consecutive starts with at least 10 strikeouts. In 12 of his 18 starts this season Sale has reached double digit strikeouts. Right now at the unofficial halfway point of the season Sale has to be the favorite for AL Cy Young. He'll probably start game 1 of the World Series as well this season.
