2017:
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck 2017 sideways. Amazing year until around...ahhh, idk, August...Maybe 22nd? Lots of cool stuff happened don't get me wrong; Patriots came back from 28-3, I broke a tinder chick's bed during some v aggressive foreplay and saw Chris Sale vs. Justin Verlander in one of his final starts with the Tigers. Personally this year was one of the biggest challenges of my life that bleed into 2018 and 19, but fuck did it produce some great music.
Again, the years are a loose guideline. Remember if there's a song omitted from the list, don't fret it could very well be in my top 40 for of the 2010s. — Doz (very niche!) #hiredozo (@DozonLife) January 3, 2020
"Weekend Special", "Fire" Cobra Man
New Drive Way Soundtrack.
Cobra Man is everything. Literally they do it all. Punk, Disco, New Wave. You name it. So excited for what's it store. "whoooooooo's gonnnaaaaaaaa puuuttt itt outtttttttttt?"
"Loving is Easy", "Sunflower" Rex Orange County
This kid is 21 and has Judd Apatow's approval!
"One of Us", "Bad Boy" Dan Croll
Some of the worst lip syncing you'll ever see in the Bad Boy video. Almost makes me think it's on purpose.
"Helpless" John Mayer
Top 20 coolest dude on earth. I think that's fair.
"Ice Tray" Quality Control, Quavo & Lil Yachty
This song is a family heirloom.
"Alaska" Maggie Rogers
I was walking through a nature trial in Nashville the first time I heard this song. I would go for a 2-3 hour walk to clear my head and get some sort of exercise while trying to balance the class from hell that ended up burning me alive. The song that made Pharrell cry did the same to ole Dozo. Voices that knock you off your feet, with lyrics that would make Poe blush.
"I Was Wrong" Chris Stapleton
You fucking feel this shit. Powerful, emotional real-country. This is the "country" I fuck with. This man is just a musician.
"Bank Account" 21 Savage
My favorite moment of my entire two month stint as a social studies teacher in the music city was when a student rapped to himself "I got 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 pencils--in my pencil pouch".
"On the Level" Mac DeMarco
This song lead off the Mac show I went to in September and just set the tone for a sick show. It's perfectly Mac; weird and a little off on purpose lo fi jizz-jazz. It was 203 degrees inside the Orpheum, but it's cool now.
"Dangerous" Umii, Reva DeVito & B. Bravo
I've never even tried to attempt saying the names of the artists. Randomly heard this once and shazaam'd it.
"High" Sir Sly
I heard this before it was in 13 Reasons Why!
"Feel it Still" Portugal. The Man
When your lyrics are in Kate Upton's IG bio, you know you made it.
Bonus Portugal. One of my favorite live covers ever. I'm 2% of the views.
"1-800-273-8255 (ft. Alessia Cara & Khalid)" Logic
Not a Logic but probably one of the most important songs of the decade.
1-800-273-8255
"The Outfield" The Night Game
Another zlab recommendation. Reminds me of the Police so much. The singer's name is Martin Johnson and he was in the emo band Boys like Girls.
"Sign of the Times" Harry Styles
Harry is the Justin of 1D.
"Feels (ft. Pharrell, Katy Perry, Big Sean)", "Slide (ft. Frank Ocean, Migos & Katy Perry)" Calvin Harris
I too am susceptible to a summer jam.
"ELEMENT" Kendrick Lamar
Personal favorite off of DAMN.
"Everything Now" Arcade Fire
That's 2016 NBA Celebrity All Star Game MVP Winn Butler band if you aren't with it.
"Mask Off" Future
I fuck with flute shit. My friends played this song enough times for me to have to like it...and I do!
"Green Light" Lorde
I was so happy when this was in New Girl.
"Something To Tell You" HAIM
My favorite sisters in rock.
"Safari Song" Greta Van Fleet
GVF's staying power in my music rotation never really happened. But for a few months I really fucked with them. They get a bad rep, but I'm not gonna hate. Do your thing, boys. At least you fucking rock and play music, unlike Imagine Dragons.
"Killed Before" Young Thug
London on the track.
"Somethin' For Ya" Pigeons Playing Ping Pong
S/o Boweski for introducing me to the Pigeons. Best thing that happened during my temp job at NG.
"Rose-Colored Boy", "Caught In The Middle", "Idle Worship" Paramore
After Laughter is on my Mount Rushmore of the Decade. This is not the last we've heard from AL.
I will say this. Hayley should win an Emmy for Rose Color Boy.
