The Hick from French Lick turns 60 years old today. On Pearl Harbor Day 1956 Larry Bird was born. While I was born in 1991 and never able to see him live (unless I was in a room with a Celtics game on before he retired after the 1991-92 season) I have nothing but the utmost respect and admiration for Larry Legend. As a big sports history guy I've read and watched a ton (if you haven't see the special on him and Magic you have to www.youtube.com/watch?v=axbIoHqFaa8) about Larry Bird over the years and he is simply the man. Blue-collar, hardnosed guy who the city of Boston and all of New England loved. He didn't let fame or money change him. Still lived in Indiana in the off-season and worked on his own property, didn't hire people to cut his grass, he did. In 1985 he hurt his back working on a driveway for his mother. That just would never happen with today's athletes. Larry was a different dude. 12 time All-Star. Three time NBA Champion. Three time MVP. One of the best players in Celtics history, I simply cannot explain in words how great Larry Bird was. He was great shooter and even bigger shit talker, there's a reason they call him Larry Legend. Congrats on 60 Larry. Happy Birthday, Larry.

1956 does not make him 60 years old!
