I'm so glad first take tweeted this stupid ass question because I've been talking about it for a couple weeks now.
Last week the news came out that Tom Brady will no longer fight the deflategate fight. Would've blogged it then but I was on staycation.
Now barring a miracle (or that people realize that Roger Goodell is a tyrant) 3rd year QB Jimmy Garappolo (Jimmy G already being in season 3 blows my mind, time please slow down) will start for the first month of the season while Brady serves his suspension. One thing is for sure, the Patriots have the most handsome QB combo in the NFL.
But for real, obviously we all know how good Tom Brady is, but he is going to be 39 years old this season. Now I fully expect Brady to be behind center come week 5 but you never know, it's the NFL crazy things have happened. I mean Joe Montana lost his starting job to Steve Young. Peyton Manning just won a Super Bowl despite not being able to throw a football 30 yards. Yes, we all know Brady takes fantastic care of himself, but we also know the cliche "father time is undefeated". Actually we may not all know that line, but I do, so I guess it is true. Basically no matter how hard you try, your body will break down.
Also sports are unpredictable. Who would've thought that when Drew Bledsoe went down in 2001 that Tom Brady would lead the Patriots to a Super Bowl win later that season? If we all knew what was going to happen I'd be a millionaire from gambling on sports.
Instead I'm a broke fake blogger. I'm just saying you cannot 100% assume Brady will be back week 5 against the Browns. You can 99.9999999999999% assume, but I will not allow you to round up to 100%.
So that poses the question: How well must Jimmy G play in order to not lose his starting job come week 5? First things first. Patriots HAVE to go 4-0 for there to even be a snowball's chance in hell of Jimmy G getting a 5th game. In New England winning is key so even if he threw 30 TD's in 4 games and the Pats went 3-1, Brady is playing vs Cleveland. Brady played at an MVP type level last season, 36 TD passes, so Jimmy needs to do something miraculous to win the full time job. Let's say the Patriots go 4-0 against the Cardinals, Dolphins, Texans and Bills. I don't see it happening, but let's say it happens. What does Jimmy need to do? I'm saying over 18 TD's and under 2 INT. Anything worse and Brady is still starting. It goes without saying but against those defenses it is no easy task. Unless Jimmy G is playing like the best QB in the NFL then it's back to the bench for him. I'm just realizing I could've done this blog in like 3 sentences but whatever, it's my first one back. I'll be better, just believe in me. It's such BS that this is happening but life isn't fair, and Roger Goodell is a tyrant. I'd give a 2% chance this happens. It is more probably than not Brady will be back, and thank God he will be. It really sucks that the Pats were a stupid two point conversation away from winning back to back Super Bowls, because make no mistake about it, if that game gets to OT the Pats win and I don't see them losing to the Panthers. Now we just have to wait until September and see how everything plays out.
