The American League beat the National League 2-1 in 10 innings last night to defeat the Senior Circuit in the All Star Game for the 5th straight year. The all time series is now tied 43-43-2.
For the first time since the 2002 All Star Game in Milwaukee the game did not determine home field advantage in the World Series which I think is a move that is long overdue. I think that it's best for the game. The ASG should be fun. Weird shit should go down. It's supposed to be a celebration of the game. We shouldn't have to get mad about Adam Wainwright hanging a meatball for Derek Jeter in his final All Star Game because it's for home field in the World Series. The ASG should be about creating all time moments and showcasing the talent in the league. Not deciding where a potential game 7 of the World Series should be played. Give homefield to the team with the better record like every other sport on earth. While last night wasn't exactly the most exciting All Star Game of all time, it did feature Mookie Betts showing off that cannon of his; this time from CF as he started in center for the injured Mike Trout.
Markus Lynn had Nolan Arenado of the Colorado Rockie by 5 feet. Best all around RF in baseball (sorry Bryce and Judge) just playing out of position in the midsummer classic gunning down the best 3rd basemen in baseball from the brink of the warning track. No big deal. At least Nolan and the rest of the majors learned an important lesson; Don't test Mookie, even in an exhibition. That was such a lame old man journalist line but it's true. Don't fuck with Mookie he'll gun you down.
