The University of Louisville will lose its 2013 national championship banner.
The NCAA's Infractions Appeals Committee announced on Tuesday that it upheld the Committee on Infractions' ruling that Louisville must vacate 123 wins, including the 2013 title and the 2012 Final Four appearance, as punishment in the school's escort case. It is the first time in modern Division I men's basketball history that a championship was vacated. The decision, released via the NCAA's website, was the last step in an infractions process that lasted more than two years after Katina Powell's bombshell book prompted an NCAA investigation in October 2015. Louisville self-imposed a postseason ban for the 2016 ACC and NCAA tournaments, and later added self-imposed recruiting sanctions after confirming Powell's allegations that former Cards basketball staffer Andre McGee paid women thousands of dollars and gave them game tickets in exchange for them dancing for and having sex with players and recruits. via: www.courier-journal.com/story/sports/college/louisville/2018/02/20/louisville-basketball-ncaa-infractions-appeal-ruling/1032556001/
I hate the NCAA, dude. Vacating wins is so stupid to me. You can't change the past but man the NCAA sure is gonna try. Reggie Bush won the '05 Heisman. The Fab 5 made two Final Fours. Every team cheats, if you really wanted to you could probably find a way to vacate every football and basketball championship since they were wearing leather helmets and using peach baskets for the hoop.
Like unless you're a Kentucky or Michigan fan you're gonna always think The Louisville Cardinals won the 2013 National Championship. This changes nothing to me. Yeah so they might have been using prostitutes to get recruits, who cares? Is that really so wrong? It's the worlds oldest profession. They were learning history. The University of North Carolina had athletes who straight up couldn't read in fake classes, but they haven't had any banners taken down. Like most things the NCAA does, this is hypocritical. If Louisville committed any crimes it's emotional neglect by allowing student athletes to play in these fugly ass sleeved uniforms throughout the 2013 NCAA Tournament.
To me that's what I'll remember about the 2013 Cardinals. Those uniforms and Kevin Ware's leg exploding. I originally included his injury in the blog, but the thumb nail was his exposed bone. Absolutely vile. I nearly threw up, and I'm a tough man, I can't imagine how it would've impacted you so I used my better judgment and left it out. Instead I'll include him with the championship net around his neck after his team won the 2013 NCAA title. Wow I am so kind. What a man.
What happens next? Do the Louisville players have to give up their rings? I don't get it. You can take down a banner from a school but if I was on that team and someone from the NCAA came knocking on my door requesting I hand over the National Championship ring that I earned on the court I think I'd pull a Mac from it's always Sunny and just eat it so they couldn't take it from me. Then you get a nice shiny poop and can learn a little about what some people did in the Holocaust to protect family heirlooms. Win-win for everybody.
Let's not forget what Rick Pitino did to celebrate his National Championship (other than last 3 seconds in restaurant booths with escorts).
You can't take that away!
