Life comes at you fast. One minute you're sitting pretty.
Then before you know it.
So how did we get here?
Tonight marked the return of Bruins PLAYOFF hockey, which means I care about the Bruins again. I'd like to think #thedozowagon played a part in this comeback victory. I can talk about that later, this post is all about the Senators tweet.
In the 2nd period of the Bruins-Senators playoff game the Bruins looked horrible. I learned tonight that they have been a bad 2nd period team all season, but I can't image a worse offensive performance than the one they had tonight. The B's went the entire period without recording a single shot on goal. As a former Lax goalie/human target, let me tell you those are the periods you live for as goalie. Side note I had a shutout in lacrosse because of that. Yeah the other team only had 2 shots and one hit the post, but a shut out is a shut out. You can't take that away from me.
As for the Bruins, it was not exactly an ideal performance, generally you'd like to make the goalie make a few saves. Kinda hard to score when you don't shoot. Sort of a reverse Wayne Gretzky/Michael Scott situation going on that period. Spin zone, can't miss if you don't shoot.
Everybody was making jokes about the shot less period on twitter, including their opponent, the Ottawa Senators.
In their defense it was an "okay" tweet talking a little shit. I chuckled when I saw it. However even after not paying attention to hockey for two years, Ole Dozo knows a one goal lead in hockey is nothing. Especially in the playoffs. Shit even a two goal lead isn't safe, hence the old cliché (had to copy and paste to get the accent, trying to be classy here) that a two goal lead is the worst lead in hockey.
Somehow, mainly thanks to Tuukka Rask the Bruins hung in tight and battled back to tie the score via a goal from Massachusetts' own Frank Vatrano. Brad Marchand buried the game winner and just like that the Bruins have a 1-0 series lead and the Senators look stupid because some poor 20 something who runs their twitter wanted to go viral. The Bruins were able to steal game one on the road in Ottawa. Pretty big deal considering they didn't beat them all season long (stat I learned today).
However the lesson of the night is simple: Don't talk shit mid-game about an opponents struggles, or at the very least, if you're going to be up by more than a single goal with an entire period to play. Down 1-0 isn't exactly insurmountable. To say twitter roasted the Senators would be an understatement.
P.S. I knew they'd come back. Afterall I am a huge hockey guy. Go B's!
