After ending their regular season with a win over the Washington Redskins the receiving core of the New York Football Giants went to Miami to get away and relax (aka party) on their off day before the playoffs began. This picture of them on a boat caused a week long debate in sports media whether or not they should've been in Miami when they had a playoff game to prepare for.
Look I hate the New York Giants. I despise that franchise for the pain they've put me through not once, but twice in Super Bowls and look for every opportunity I can to bash them. I think anybody who blames this for why they lost is a fool. It definitely wasn't a smart move by them but I don't think you can just say they would've won had they not gone. This picture isn't why Aaron Rodgers threw for 4 touchdowns. Going to Miami isn't why Odell dropped a sure touchdown.
However if you're gonna blame anything Odell and the boys did leading up to the game for why they lost blame this:
Blame the Giants are being hugeeeee hardos going out in pre game warm ups shirtless in freezing weather. Hours before kickoff. As a guy with a cold right now let me tell you not bundling up isn't a sign of toughness, it's a sign of stupidity. You're gonna get sick. Where are the coaches? Shit where are their moms? I'd never do this in a million years just so I could avoid the inevitable "you need to layer" conversation my mom likes to have as soon as it gets below 60 outside. Who thought this was a good idea? I haven't traveled a ton but I actually have been to Wisconsin and let me tell you it may be the coldest place on Earth. I went for a weekend in November like 6 years ago and didn't bring a winter jacket and still get nightmares about it. Probably one of the dumbest decisions I ever made. I'm honestly lucky to be alive. I wouldn't wish a weekend in Wisconsin in November on my worst enemy. It was awful, you can see your breathe in Wisconsin from like September-June. If you want to find a scapgoat for the Giants losing to the Packers (other than the fact they really weren't that good) don't blame the trip to Miami, blame these idiots for galavanting around the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field shirtless in January.

I've been trying to think of a funny way to open this blog for like 15 minutes now and I'm starting to get pissed off at myself for blocking up so I'm just gonna shoot from the hip and blog like how I speak....without thinking.
Trump has said and done a lot of things to make people upset. The dude just doesn't give a fuck about what people think and says what he truly feels. I understand entirely why people hate him so much. But in a way you almost have to respect what he's done, even if you hate him. Like if you wrote a movie about a crazy billionaire who basically did everything you're not supposed to do leading up to an election becoming President every producer in Hollywood would laugh you out of the building because that movie would suck and nobody would believe the ending. Yet somehow it happened in real life. That is absolutely insane. The dude seemingly shot himself in the foot time, after time and still ended up in the White House. That is truly remarkable. It's like if you went out on a first date and ate with your hands, farted constantly, called her the C word, talked about your exes, spilled a beer on her, hit on the waitress, and didn't pay yet still somehow got the chick to sleep with you. That's basically what happened with the election. Like I despise the New York Yankees and everything about them. But even as a die-hard Red Sox fan it's hard to deny all that they've accomplished and I can respect the greatness they've acchieved. I still fucking hate everyhing about them, but I understand why people like them. It's kind of like that with Trump. I can see why people either love or hate him. I can't lie I used to not care about the stuff he'd get blasted for saying just because it didn't impact me directly. Plus I don't care about politics. All I really care about is sports, music, getting a girl and a dog and finding a way to pay for everything. I live in America, I don't have to worry about trying to immigrate to a place I already live. I'm a man, I don't have a pussy that can get grabbed and I don't have to worry about what bathroom I'm going to use unless I'm driving home after chipotle but that's more about making sure I don't ruin a pair of jeans. But now with the inauguration less than two weeks away the reality of the fact that Donald J. Trump is going to be the President of the United States of America is setting in. That is what brings me to last night. Last night at the Gloden Globes Meryl Streep accepted the Cecil B. DeMille Award for "outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment" and during her speech she talked about the important role entertainers play in society and also bashed Donald Trump, mainly his behavior and immigration policies.
If you aren't going to watch the whole speech that's fine this excerpt is really all you need to see.
"They gave me three seconds to say this. So an actor's only job is to enter the lives of people who are different from us and let you feel what that feels like, and there were many, many, many powerful performances this year that did exactly that, breathtaking, compassionate work. But there was one performance this year that stunned me. It sank its hook in my heart not because it was good. It was — there was nothing good about it, but it was effective, and it did its job. It made its intended audience laugh and show their teeth. It was that moment when the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country imitated a disabled reporter, someone he outranked in privilege, power, and the capacity to fight back. It kind of broke my heart, and I saw it, and I still can't get it out of my head because it wasn't in a movie. It was real life. And this instinct to humiliate when it's modeled by someone in the public platform by someone powerful, it filters down into everybody's life because it kind of gives permission for other people to do the same thing. Disrespect invites disrespect. Violence insights violence. When the powerful use definition to bully others, we all lose. Ok. Go on with that thing. OK. " Shockingly, President-Elect Trump did not like what she had to say about him and like he always seems to do, took to twitter and said the following:
Over-rated?
Can someone get me some oven mitts to handle that hot take?
Overrated? A 19 time Oscar nominee is overrated? Michael Scott's favorite actress is overrated? Dude come on, you gotta be better than that. Calling a celebrity who doesn't like you overrated is like when I get in an argument with someone and they call me fat. I know I've already won, when you have to resort to such low hanging fruit the battle is over. Have a big brain for me one time, Donny. Be pissed at her for calling you out in front of the entire country, in fact you should be. But to call the woman who is pretty much across the board seen as one of the greatest actresses of all time overrated is such a bad look and makes you look like a loser. Be better. Out of all the outlandishthings Donald has said this may take the cake. Meryl Streep is overrated. Wow. Does Donald Trump think pizza is overrated too? Is falling in love overrated? Is the feeling of finally sneezing when it was building up for a long time and you didn't think it'd ever come out overrated? Where does the madness stop? P.S. Trump is definitely one of those ass holes that trys to say the Beatles are overrated. If I'm talking music with someone and they say that they automatically lose all credibility. I didn't even know Matt Bonner played in the NBA last season. You could've told me he retired in like 2013 and I would've believed you. Most people only knew about Matt Bonner because he was the huge white guy with red hair on the Spurs who was wet AF from 3. That's what I love about this video. Bonner knows he's not a star. The dude averaged 5.8 points per game in his 12 year NBA career. He's basically a little better verison of Brian Scalabrine without the cult following. But hey the dude made his money and has two rings. Not too bad for a guy from the hotbed basketball state of New Hampshire. Shit his press conference only had two people in the audience and they weren't even there for him. They thought it was for Matt Damon. While this video isn't piss your pants funny and the Boston accidents are a little forced, for a professional athlete that most casual NBA fans forgot about him it was pretty good. Solid move by Bonner to release this video and remind very casual NBA fans like me that he is still alive and well. Song: Angel of Small Death & the Codeine Scene Artist: Hozier Album: Take Me To Church 2016 was a great year for music and Glass Animals were one of favorite finds of the year. Their album "How to Be a Human Being" is wild. They have such a unique sound that is just infectious as hell. I can't think of another band I'd compare them to soundwise. They're fucking weird too but in an awesome way, just go to their website and click on their songs and you'll see what I mean. Last night they made the late night circuit yet again, with a performance on The Late Late Show with James Corden. Did I stay up and watch live? No of course not that's why youtube exists. Plus I don't think that chubby brit is funny. Yeah maybe I'm a little butthurt he's famous for singing in the car which if you follow me on snapchat you know that's MY thing but I digress.. Glass Animals performed "Pork Soda" last night, personally my favorite song of their album. The song's opening line is "pineapples are in my head, got nobody cause I'm brain dead" so of course being literal as all hell they came out in a very tropical looking set with a bunch of pineapples. Do I know what it means or represents? No of course not, I have a small brain when it comes to interpreting shit like that but I know I love their song and this song. Check it out. They are a really cool band that I think is going to blow up. My only complaint is the lyrics are changed a little bit for tv which is lame sauce.
The New England Patriots went 14-2 this season despite Tom Brady being suspended for the first four games of the season. They also shockingly trading away All-Pro linebacker Jamie Collins and lost superstar TE Rob Gronkowski to a season ending back injury.
Despite all that the Pats still found a way to have their best record since 2010 (and best record in the entire NFL) locked up homefield advantage throughout the AFC playoffs. In addition to the fantastic season the Pats have had, the rest of the AFC is more down and out than Kid Cudi in '08. The Dolphins and Raiders are both are starting back-up QBs in the playoffs, with the Raiders' Connor Cook making his first career start. The Texans are the Texans.. nobody thinks they're going to do shit. Brock Osweiler lost his job to Tom Savage for Godsake and is only starting because Savage suffered a concussion. Because of this and the high chance that the Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers will most likely play each other in the divisional round, thus knocking one out, the Patriots are extremely heavy favorites to win the AFC as the road to Houston seems easier than any potential playoff run in Patriots history given the level of competition.
They're gonna play against either the Raiders, Texans or Dolphins the divisional round. More likely the Raiders or Texans because I just do not see the Matt Moore led Dolphins going into Pittsburgh and winning a playoff game.
I'm really not scared of any of those teams and that is what worries me the most. It's the perfect storm for an all-time upset. The ESPN football power index which uses a million different stats and metrics to predict outcomes said the Patriots have 66% to make the Super Bowl. Not a 66% chance to win their first game. 66% chance to come out of the AFC. Those odds are crazy high. Usually the favorite in a regular year will be somewhere around 20-30%. Truthfully the only team that sort of worries me is Kansas City, they have a good defense and an explosive playmaker in Tyreek Hill but TBH I wouldn't be shocked if they lost to the Steelers at Arrowhead. I know I should be giving the Steelers more respect but Roethlisberger has never beaten the Patriots in a big game. Honestly I'm not really worried about any opponent and that is what scares me. The pressure to just be assumed AFC champs matters. Players and coaches will act like they're not thinking about it but they're humans too, the thoughts definitely cross their minds. If the Patriots do not make the Super Bowl this season given the level of competiton in the AFC make no mistake it will be one of the biggest let downs of the Brady-Belichick era. Everybody is just ready to write the Patriots in as AFC champs as if they have three byes until the Super Bowl and suddenly upsets don't exist. Yes the Pats are the clear cut favorite and best team in the conference but it's the NFL playoffs. It's one game. Anything can happen. I'll talk to people and they'll just assume we're going to win. Crazy shit happens all the time. That's what makes the playoffs awesome. The Surprise. My man Tim Tebow won a playoff game. The Broncos with a corpse at QB won the Super Bowl last year. In 2011 a 9-7 Giants team went into Green Bay and beat the shit out of a 15-1 Packers squad then won the Super Bowl. Mark Sanchez has won 4 NFL playoff games. I'm just saying anything can happen and how everybody is just totally disregarding a slip up pisses me TF off. The national media will always say Patriot fans are spoiled because of the longterm sucess they've experienced, which is true, we are. But at the same time it almost takes away the joy of being a fan. Going 14-2 is awesome and should be celebrated but it's just not around here. When you're in the playoffs every single year, usually with a first-round bye, nothing in the regular season will matters. If they pull another 2010 and lose in the divisonal-round the season is a huge disappointment and will ultimately be remembered as a failure. When they win it's more a relief than excitement at this point as anything less than a Super Bowl appearence is a failure and honestly even that is. This season is meaningless without a ring. I do expect the Patriots to be in Houston but I don't think it'll be as easy as everybody thinks, the fact that everybody is ready to put in stone does not make me feel good. Song: Amsterdam Artist: Guster Album: Keep It Together (2003) Yes you read that correctly, ole dozo has an interview with Barstool Sports. I honestly am still in shock. While it is not a blogging positon I am still incredibly excited about the potential opportunity and where things can go in the future. I'll briefly explain what is up for your boy. Yesterday barstool blogged about a new opening to help run their viceroy accounts. www.barstoolsports.com/barstoolu/were-officially-hiring-full-time-employees-for-the-viceroy-program/ I sent an email explaining why I think I'd be a good hire and they replied today asking to set up an interview. While I don't know too much more about the job I honestly do not care, I'd be a janitor at barstool headquarters if it gave me a .1% chance to become a blogger. Now nothing is official yet, all I know is that the first offical real job interview I'll ever have is for my dream company. All the talk from my friends and most importantly my father doubting me makes this that much sweeter. I very well could not get hired but just having the chance to get my foot in the door to me is a gigantic win and makes me feel incredible. I know I'd be great at this job. While it's not blogging I hope I can thrive at this. You gotta start somewhere. Obviously I'll tell them about DOL and the success it has had and hopefully parlay that into something. But if it doesn't I'm fine with that. Just to be a part of the team will be enough for me. I'm an ex offensive-linemen, I'm a team guy, its in my blood. No stats for me (excpept for the 1 carry I got on senior day) I'm just here to help the other guys look good and get some wins. Same thing when I play basketball. I'm all about picks and hard fouls. Gotta know your role. But I mean if there's a "look at all this talent we had right under our nose the whole time" situation with me then that's awesome too. Like when a football coach steals a kid off the soccer team and turns him into a star kicker. If I can be the Steven Hauschika of Barstool that'd be perfect. But we'll cross that bridge when/if we get there. Even if that doesn't happen just to the chance to have a job working for a company I love is an absolute honor and dream come true. I know I'd absolutely kill it at the job I applied for. I just want to make a living helping barstool grow, however I can, that is my biggest goal. I'll know more hopefully later today but wanted to share this news with everybody. Keep rooting for me and say a prayer to whatever God you believe in for me. Hopefully things work out because if they don't it will be incredibily embarrassing having posted so much about this and my dreams just to get them crushed and my heart broken by yet another thing that I love in a very public setting. P.S. very happy to see my dad is soooo excited for me.
Just like in 2015, the Patriots needed a week 17 victory in Miami to secure homefield advantage in the playoffs. Unlike 2015 this year the Pats took care of business and locked up the 1 seed by beating the Dolphins 35-14.
WR Julian Edelman had a career day in the victory. 8 receptions for 151 yards (career high) and a touchdown (and a two-point conversion) I know the Pats are all about the team and not individual achievements but this performance by Edelman is very noteworthy. He's the first Patriots WR to recieve a player of the week award since Randy Moss way back in 2007. While he indivdually had a fantastic game it would not have been possible without this smashing block by recently acquired WR Michael Floyd. Team football right here.
That play was the turning point in game. Patriots came out hot and had a 20-0 lead but Miami was able to close the gap to 6. On a big third down, stop them there and the Dolphins get the ball back down 6 with all the momentum. Instead Brady finds Edelman for a first down and then Michael Floyd kills a man in cold blood to open up the lane for a touchdown. One of the best blocks by a WR I've ever seen.
Edelman's biggest game of his career came at great time for both the team and him individually. He helped the Patriots pick up the win to go 14-2 and secure homefield advantage, and for him individually it gave him a new career high in recieving yards for a season. Edelman finished the 2016 regular season with 98 receptions for 1,106 yards and 3 touchdowns. |
