It's no secret ya dude Old Dozo has some binge-boi tendencies. While food is the number one culprit, I do not discriminate with overindulging. I do the same with music as well! I've had many a phase over the years where I listen to exclusively one artist for like three weeks; sometimes it may be only one song. Here are some past examples over the years; Big L, The Beach Boys, Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car", Paramore, The Eagles, "Wannabe" by the Spice Girls, Huey Lewis and the News, TLC, The Beatles, 70's Funk and Madonna's "Like a Prayer". Eventually, things will change and I'll find somebody else, like the 1975.
My latest obsession started on Friday when I was deleting beers, watching music videos with two (2) other people; one of whom I live with. We chill and listen to music. Vibe TF out. Simple rotation. I play a song, you play a song and repeat. I felt like switching it up and dropped some WP.
Actually that's low key a lie....although that all did happen.
It really started on Day 18 of the IG 30 Day Song Challenge with "a song from the year you were born". My first choice was "Hold On" by Wilson Phillips, but I wasn't 100% sure if it came out in 1990 or 1991. (I was born in '91) While my mom is the only person with the heart to call out my technical content mistakes; I didn't want to be factually incorrect and run the risk of being corrected by people who don't even have their own blog. After 45 minutes of deciding, I ultimately went with "More than Words" by Extreme.
While I love a good ballad, this is about Wilson Phillips' #1 debut single "Hold On". I legitimately listened to it five times in a row TODAY while driving and it's been on a loop while I blo...break FREEE, break from the chaiiiiiiiins.
Sure, a lot of my time listening to music the last two years has been with Mac DeMarco and Tame Impala, but there is so much more to me than stereotypical stoner music. Don't ya know I'm a music guy? Of course I've seen Bridesmaids, but I was aware of Wilson Phillips beforehand... You think I didn't know about Carnie Wilson's livestream in the late 90's when normal kids were playing Little League? I watched A LOT of VH1 as a kid. But I'll have to admit "Hold On" was not in my daily rotation until this weekend. It just popped up and I cannot get enough of it. I don't know how you can objectively say this is a bad song? They harmonize great, there's awesome vocal progressions and the song has a meaningful message....Don't kill yourself.
Earlier in C, "Lean on Me" was going viral as a tune of hope. I think "Hold On" fits that mold as well. It's not perfect because this isn't our fault and I don't 100% agree with "nobody can change your life except for you". But I've been worrying like crazy, stressed AF...it's ruining my creative flow. This song has helped fix that block. During the uncertainty of the Big C and life in general it really is a great anthem to help you take a deep breath and relax during all this shit. We all want life to go back to normal soon but don't you know things can change? Things'll go your way. If you hoooooooooooooooooooold on for one more day. Can you hold on for one more day? Things'll go your way. Hold on for one more day.
P.S.
I know it's gonna be longer than one day, but hopefully things will be better sooner rather than later. Double P.S. I live for shit like this.
TRIPLE P.S.
